Sunny. Temps rising from single digits around 0730 to around 40 by 2. It snowed about 2 ft here on Fri-Sat, and Mt Ellen hadn't been open since Thu, so it was still a POWDER DAY. But first, we were there for a SL they were running on the T-Bar (i.e, on the dead flat). About 6-7" of compacted super soft snow over the ice layer ... which we didn't slip or rake or shovel out, so it was just super rutty.
Freeskiing on the top of Inverness and on Brambles was really fun. Soft snow that was fun to make large-radius turns on. Couldn't hammer on the outside ski, or it'd bury and you'd eat it pretty hard, which several racers did ...
One athlete, and he skied really well first run before straddling the last gate. Sigh. After that, we freeskied for a couple of hours off the high-speed midmountain quad and the summit quad. Really great views off the summit - I'd forgotten how pretty it is up there.
Skiing was really good too - it was already pretty tracked out on all the cut trails, but still pretty fun and skiable. I could ski bumps reasonably well on the '17 SLs, which was surprising. The woods seemed like they'd be great, but not with the race skis. I wish I'd brought the Enforcers up - would have been a great day to try them.
Still, really fun day.
