Left October turns to the last minute, per usual (but also due to work schedule, other obligations, and just a general lack of snow close to the homefront). While a storm was forecast for Halloween, I decided not to wait until the absolute last minute and went out to scout some spots on Wednesday. Found a few patches of snow up around the Boreal border on Wed. 29th, as well as a semi-debateable swatch up on the PCT above Perazzo Canyon (Jackson Meadows/Mt. Lola area). Decided the latter wouldn't be terribly safe solo, so opted for the low-angle, 2-inches over dirt patch near Boreal. Made a grand total of 20 turns, mostly awkward hop turns due to the meager pitch and semi-quicksand nature of the snow. Almost hesitated to count it as a ski day, but my patch-skiing buddy (and guru) Stev asked "did you have your skis on snow and did you make turns?" My answer was "Yes" and his reply was "that counts as a ski day in my book." Still, possibly the most bleak patch I've skied in a long, long, long time.
