Leavitt Lake/Ski Lake, HWY 108, CA

9am - 7pm from truck-to-snow-and-back-again. Managed 8 runs and once I put on my ski boots I never took them off until the completion of the last run (i.e. lottsa hiking over scree, dirt, and snow in boots!). Got skunked out of the first chute due to lack of crampons; the snow was so hard I couldn't set a solid, comfortable bootpack after 1/5 of the way up, even following my buddy who had crampons (note to self: buy crampons). Skied a Sisters chute that was nice and steep, enough that I would never had banged it out solo. Passed on another chute in Sisters, again due to lack of crampons (see above note to self). Was amazed at the amount of snow still up there and the quality/length of the runs. Ran into a lady from Kansas on the trail (she took our picture to send to her friends back home that don't believe that people in Cali ski in June). Ran into 3 tele skiers, as well. Saw a group of about 8 backpackers in the distance. Other'n that it was quiet and empty. Good day. Skied with: Casey and Stev. Equipment: Blizzard Bushwhacer; Tecnica Diablo Inferno 130; Dueter pack; Smith Variant helmet; Merrel boots, Wigwam socks; Look bindings....
