With an 8-day rafting/camping trip looming on the horizon (actually the very next day), it was time to get that last-minute June skiing Jones in check. A few of us had been eyeing the backside of Lola, which usually never holds this late, especially on a low snow season like we had, so we rallied. Mark F. drove, and me, Stev, and Rossi the Retriever tagged along. Luckily for us somebody had chainsawed the trees blocking the road, so we were finally able to cross the Jan Michael Vincent Bridge of Danger and drive all the way up to the Mt. Lola ridgeline (this saved us a good hour of hiking). Mark and Rossi opted to ski a mellow pitch close to the truck whilst Stev and I ventured to the long snowfield that descended down the back side toward Perazzo Meadows. The snow was variable, being a bit crunchy at the top, riddled with crazy rollercoaster rollovers and fissures, but it turned to sweet corn at the bottom. I bagged 3 runs before the grueling hike out (I'mma guess it took up close to 2 hours to hike back, which was a straight uphill castle storm). Still, the turns were run, the run was long, and the snow pretty damn bueno for the end of June.
