Hit up the Dunderberg glacial system for some Friday afternoon schuss. Snow was on the road so we were thwarted from 4x4ing all the way to Jack's, forced to park on Kavanaugh Ridge overlook instead. Jack's was pretty toasted, coated in a rough, glossy expanse of ice topped by a thin layer of windblown; we passed on skiing it. Instead, we--Stev, Kevin, John, myself, and the three pooches: Penny, Makisha, Bella--trudged over the ridge and hit up the Hidden Samurai Snowfield instead. The conditions here weren't much better: breakable crust on top of powdered milk, interspersed with rock candy textured ice formations. I spent a good 30+ minutes stomping around to break up the 2-inch+ crust so as to make a semi-skiable run. I took 3 passes on my run, eventually scoring a full 10 turns (first run was 4 turns, followed by a 9 turn run). Perhaps not the most optimal of conditions, but definitely character building.
