Day 1!!! Basically two trails open. Crunchy in the morning with a bit of groomer globs. Fast grass on the sides of the trail ... Mushy spring snow and nearing 50 degrees by lunch. A good start to the season. Skied bushwhackers, new tecnica 9.5s and in my blue and red Patagonia snowbelle. Accompanied by the crew - Gaby, Bill, Chris, Mel, Sarah, and making his bear creek babysitting debut - Matthew!!!
Weird day today - sun baked crunch for most of the day. Almost quit early on but glad that I hung in there. Explored the Doors off of Minshaft - way sketchy traverse lead to some really sweet nicely spaced trees. Other favorite runs of the day - blackhawk trees and the burn off of peak 10 (way better than last time we were in there), peerless trees, lonewolf to minedump, and of course cucumber gulch. Six chair was wind hold, E chair is still down so we had to be a little creative :) The group wasn't as cohesive today - but we still got some great pointers and some really good mountain guidance.
Hero day!! Just an awesome day with the lesson group. Started off in the bowls and then moved into the trees. Skiied 007 which is a great tree stand off of Colorado - really enjoyed those. Not steep at all. Skiied CJ's - that was steep!! Also skiied a bunch off the six chair since E chair was down. Good solid day!!
Day 2 with DIrk! Real snow!! They said about 5" it was skiing like it was much more than that. Good mojo today - skiied hard and got a few tips on moving up. Looking foward to the day i can ski a runout as well as i can ski a groomer. Starting to love the trees. Didn't see that one coming. Till next week!
Oh skiied my age for the year. Yippee!!
Skiing with Dirk today. Mojo was about 7 on the scale. Went to 5 after lunch. Skiied hard and awesome stuff. Stuff i'm pretty sure isn't on the map. Cant wait for tomorrow.
Braving the crowds for a short day today. Skiied first (well 5th) chair but 1st run down the mountain. Silly snowboarders!
Great groomers in the morning, but were confined to the lower frontside for a while. Worked on some technique. Did a few runs off of Zuma (scary!) and one run down Pali Mainstreet/Spine. Tweaked my knee pretty good so we ended early with beer and a Pastrami Sammie. Seriously the best pastrami i've had in colorado!!
POWDER DAY!!! So this could have been my last day in CO and if it was, it would have been good. Figured skiing for Valentine's Day was way better than braving the dinner crowds. Stayed on 6 and E chair most of the day to avoid the winds up top. Two runs down the windows. One of them first tracks. Ah! Life is good :)
Last day of the tahoe trip. Started out slow with Tricia and Bill in the morning. Took a few runs and really wasnt feeling the vibe. Found a great area named momument glades and pounded that a few times. Better snow in there than on the scrapey groomers. Played with Bill a little over on the comstock chair before heading out. Another gorgeous day ... but man - next time I'm coming back later in the year!
Day 2 - with the whole clan this time. Bill, Gaby, Tricia and Phil. Met up with Steve and Daria. Pretty crowded, dry but beautiful bluebird sky. Still stayed on the groomers all day. Want to ski this place when there is actual snow ;)
Day 1 of Tahoe Trip. Don't remember how to ski when its this dry and groomed. Chilly and a big fog groomed. Fog lifted just as we left at the end of a short day with Gaby and Phil. Back to the house to relax.
DAY 25!! Huzzah. Skied with BumpFreaq, Ron, Phil and Tricia, Susan and Ira. Hard skiing all day. Skied the Nordies because I'm comfortable on them having skied them in Silverton and yesterday at ABay. Probably a mistake. Most of the new snow was all packed out. "Easy afternoon" - 2x gambler, drunken frenchman, trestle. Met up with Kimberly, Monique and Rachel for drinks at the cheeky monk. Spent the night in the condo again and came home early Monday morning. No traffic!
Might be our last time here this trip so we tried to enjoy the hell out of it. Still recovering from the grunge so we had to take a loooong lunch break/nap. Got to ski two runs of Pali and bunch of fun runs down slalom slope. Starting to feel the bump vibe. Spent the night up at the WP condo with Phil, Tricia and Ron
Day two of Rippin Chix Camp. Deep Deep Snow ... lots of tumbles and lots of laughs. Need about 50 more of these powder days to get good at skiing this stuff. Relax and smile more :)
Oh yeah .... Big day! Skiing with the rippin chicks for clinic. Awesome!!! Wet gloppy snow fell most of the day. 4 runs ... No crowds ... Facilities consist of a latrine, decrepit busses "silverton correctional facility" and a repurposed ups truck. Drinks at the yurt. AWESOME!!!
Last day of MLK weekend. Chill day enjoying the sunshine. Met up with Robyn while taking a beer break. Raw bar for late lunch. Much fun was had (as always!)
Skiied with Andy and Bill. Lots and lots of bumps on the Jane and a few runs over on Vasquez. Pretty quiet on the MJ side ... all the tourists were over on WP or on MJ/Sleeper Trails. Just gotta know where to go :)
Back at Breck with Kevin - we intended to do a half day but somehow that worked into a full. Running into Monique at lunchtime likely helped. Low mojo day, but happy to be out there :)
Brrrr!!!! Skied with Kevin's group today. Gluey Velcro snow, but better (and warmer! in the bumps). One ride up the that to ski some serious mank. Good day despite the cold and conditions.
Is it still a ski day on the bunny hill. Nojo day today so rented a board and grabbed a lesson. Pretty good way to deal with ice on lower mt and no legs to ski up top.
Oh yeah ... Ski the east! 600 ft of steeze. Rental gear all the way - switched to board and ripped the %*+! outa the green runs. Great fun and lots of laughs with Gaby, Paul, Bill, Chris and the lil' ripper chick Sarah :)
Very frigid ... But awesome day at the Basin. Clocked 4" at the base but more up top. Unleashed Hells made their almost maiden voyage on the hill today (Gaby skied them by accident before). Tons of fun - glad bill got some fresh snow before heading back east!!
