Finally skied Deer Valley! Very nice resort with relatively easy terrain. A THICK bank of fog below mid-mountain made for parts of some runs in almost zero-visibility, but there are so many trees at DV that one can stay close to them and navigate safely down. I'd almost call it an urban resort - as you go up the lifts from the base, you go right past private homes (priced in the millions) as well as condo villages. It snowed all day, but it was wet/heavy snow and we didn't realize how hard we'd worked until we sat down for lunch and had a hard time getting up! Called it early and headed back to the condo. Would love to go back on a bluebird day.
Fell again today on a bonehead move - hit my head this time, and re-hit the rib cage. Quite sore, so will check with the doctor on Monday. Very slight headache but no other head problems at all. SO THANKFUL for my helmet; wouldn't even consider skiing without it.
All in all, a delightful week spent with Ski Diva friends!
Our last day at Snowbasin this trip. Great fun lapping Middle Bowl. Lower half of Strawberry in the morning was FROZEN so we moved to the top of the mountain. Caught an edge on the run before lunch and took quite a tumble, banged up my rib cage on the right but it seems to just be bruises, likely of cartilage between ribs.
OK, so it wasn't at Bear, but at Arizona Snowbowl, which SlopeSquad doesn't recognize. Their loss! Almost 20" of champagne powder, packed from yesterday, then another 6" overnight and lightly snowing all day. Challenging for a first day, but I did better than I ever have in powder.
Need to work on stamina though!
Our last day at Basin - skied the morning in fantastic conditions. It sure looked like they got a dusting last night up top. Likely my last day of the season, and definitely my fullest and best one yet!
Beautiful day - colder than yesterday, snow stayed nicer. North facing areas were scratchy in the morning but softened up nicely. Top half of the mountain got COLD after lunch! Skied until 2 PM then headed back to do homework and pack.
Gorgeous bluebird day!! Packed powder that stayed in superb shape all day long. However, I have rarely been so grateful for a jacuzzi! Also - the day's top speed, 37.8 MPH. LOVE the Ski Tracks app.
Got some great turns in today! Impromptu lesson and good work with my coach all over the mountain. Hoping to demo the Salomons in a longer length when we return in 3 weeks (on-snow demo on March 15th!) but I'm probably going to buy them.
Last morning at Basin on this trip - skied for fun with my coach and kept working on perfecting technique so I can ski Wildflower when I'm back in two weeks!
Skied Basin again with Pequenita & Marigee in the morning, then Marigee in the afternoon (Pequenita had to catch a flight). Played mainly on the middle of the mountain, felt like we lapped Middle Bowl a dozen times!
